All along the way, you’ll get to check out sea life of all kinds, including colorful tropical fish, dolphins, and monk seals. Depending on your tour of choice, you can bring up to 100 of your friends and family along for the ride. You just need to select your tour type and share anything that would make your trip truly special. The crew will then get to work in creating an excursion to remember. From the beginning, Fair Wind has been rooted in sustainable travel. What started as a brief rendezvous in Kona on a cruise from Monterey to the South Pacific turned into a lifetime adventure on the western coast of Hawaii’s Big Island for the Dant family.

THE FAIR WIND STORY

Part of that mission meant becoming the first tour company in the state of Hawaii to offer plant-based meals to guests on excursions. As leaders in ocean tourism, we take the responsibility of solving environmental issues seriously. With an eye to the future, our focus is to provide an example for marine mammal and reef health education. Exclusively for the Manta Ray snorkel, they began serving hot & homemade plant-based soups with dinner rolls and hot cocoa. The Fair Wind II is perfect for snorkeling, swimming, sightseeing, and enjoying the calm, cerulean blue waters of historic Kealakekua Bay, where the Captain Cook Monument is located.

Fair Wind sold the Orca Raft in 2005 to make way for its new crown jewel, the luxurious Hula Kai. The vessel caters to snorkel enthusiasts with the thrill of speeding to exotic locations along the remote South Kona coast. The morning snorkel includes all snorkeling equipment and snorkeling instruction for beginners. You'll also be given breakfast in the morning and lunch after your snorkel. Hula Kai ventures off the beaten path – speeding you to exotic locations along the South Kona coast, including night manta ray adventures.

Two locations to snorkel, paddle boards, breakfast and lunch. Reef safe sunscreen even provided and coffee before boarding! Staff was so friendly, and the trip was one of the best things our family did in Kona.

Tropical breakfast and an island-inspired savory lunch included. In 1994, the Fair Wind II was complete and started its run, continuing Fair Wind Cruises tradition of fun and superior service. Our family has been out with Fair Wind on numerous occasions over the years as it’s always the highlight of our vacation.

Discover remote locations as unique as the vessel that gets you there. Hula Kai is an exciting, yet truly relaxing experience! This 5-hour cruise departs daily from Keauhou Bay, the birthplace of Hawai’i’s longest reigning Monarch, King Kamehameha III.

The afternoon tour features great snorkeling and great value! A shortened version of the morning tour aboard the Fair Wind II vessel –  without meals. Enjoy abundant marine life, waterslides, high-jump platform, and rich historical beauty along the way. Depending on your tour of choice, you’ll get to ride on their 60-foot custom-built catamaran, the Fair Wind II, or the 55-foot catamaran, the Hula Kai. Both boats offer comfortable seating with shade covers all around, plus have enough power to get through rough waves.

My wife and I snorkel a lot … and it takes a lot to impress us. We have owned our own sailing catamaran, so we are used to going to places that aren't crowded and where the snorkeling is excellent. Whenever we go out on snorkel tours on the Big Island we are treated to conditions that we are able to find on our own boat – great reefs and uncrowded snorkeling. As you jet to your destination, take the time to enjoy the views and snack on whatever food and drinks they roll out. Then, you’ll have a chance to don their gear and snorkel through the crystal-clear waters in search of wondrous sights. More food and drinks will come your way after that, followed by even more fun in the sun.

The Afternoon Kealakekua Snorkel Tour is one of the best-kept secrets around. Guests are essentially getting the popular morning tour without the meals (breakfast & lunch). Therefore, the overall cruise duration is shortened a bit, but with plenty of time to have fun snorkeling.

Plus, afternoons in Kealakekua Bay are generally absent from other tour boat operators, providing a truly serene experience. If you can make it, consider coming out on one of our snorkel cruises. Fair Wind II takes families to Kealakekua Bay where the Captain Cook Monument is located.

Looking forward to our second snorkel on the morning cruise tomorrow. The destination is the same and the snorkel time is ALMOST the same. Lunch is not served, which accounts in part for the shorter tour time. For a truly unique experience, join us aboard Fair Wind’s sister vessel, Hula Kai. This powerful 55’ catamaran is full of first-class comforts like individual theater-style seating and scrumptious food.
